About the Author:
I’m Alexus Cazares-Nuesser, a PhD candidate in Biological Oceanography researching deep-sea zooplankton in the Pacific Ocean. I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles and originally studied reptiles during my undergraduate years in the Arizona desert. It was there, far from the ocean, that I discovered my passion for marine science. As a first-generation Latina scientist, I created this guide to help others—especially students from underrepresented backgrounds—find their way into ocean science, too.
